SPEA-J 101 American Criminal Justice System
Introduction to the criminal justice system of the United States and its function in contemporary society. The course will focus on theoretical, legal, practical, social, and methodological issues surrounding the major elements of the criminal justice system (i.e., crime, police, courts, and corrections). Current critical issues and their impact on the system will also be discussed. Thus, the major course goals are for students to learn the: (a) language, (b) structure, (c) evolution, (d) process, and (e) critical issues surrounding the American criminal justice system.
